Swardeston U15s beat Great Melton U15s by four wickets in the Andy Seeley Trophy final.
Swardeston bowler Albert Lindsell proved to be the difference between two evenly matched sides in the final of the Under-15s Andy Seeley Trophy, taking 6-19 as Swardeston won by four wickets in a low-scoring match.
The sides had tied in the group stages earlier in the competition. Melton were asked to bat on a greenish wicket and were always up against it. At 47-4, skipper George Bunn and Simon Brett threatened briefly with a partnership of 23, the most productive of the innings, but Brett was bowled for 14 then Bunn was run out for a very well-made 31.Lindsell then came back on for his second spell to leave Melton on 99.
Asked to score 100 to win in 40 overs, it looked easy for Swardeston but, to their credit, Melton bowled and fielded well to defend their small total.
Simon Brett's opening spell saw just eight conceded in five overs while two wickets for leg-spinner Bunn and a good spell of 1-20 from Josh Wilson had Swardeston stuttering at 87-6, despite an excellent 36 from opener Aaron Murphy.Chatland (10 not out) and Taylor (4 not out) kept their nerve, however, to see Swardeston home in the 23rd over.
With Andy Seeley unable to attend because of illness, the cup was presented to Swardeston by Alliance vice-chairman Terry Moore. The man-of-the-match award, judged by Alliance committee member Stuart Baker, not surprisingly went to Albert Lindsell. The Norfolk Cricket Alliance thanks Gt Melton CC for being excellent hosts for the final, and the umpires, Dick Chapple and Ted Searle.
